On Gear Night in November, we hold a contest to choose the year’s Austin Person of Gear. We invite judges from across the country and accept applications from contestants from the Austin Metropolitan Area. Austin Person of Gear represents the club and the Gears Community of Austin. Open to all who identify Queer female/male/non-binary/genderqueer individuals 21 years or older, they are encouraged to travel across the state, country, and internationally to promote Austin GEARS and all forms of positive self-expression. The winner is eligible and encouraged to compete in IML, MIR, and other Gear contests worldwide.
Last year’s winner, Kewal Maravilla, Thaddy of the House of Maravillas placed in the top 20 at IML, showcasing the strength and talent of our community on an international stage.
